Hello friends! Last year when Kaisercraft released their line called Indigo Skies, I could not wait to get my hands on it!! I loved the shades of blues and navy and every single one of the patterns are on point! I had no idea then how perfect that paper would be for a little adventure we had in March when our grandson visited. We took him to the Butterfly Wonderland exhibit where we walked around and just watched all the 1000’s of butterflies – all different sizes and colors – as they flitted and landed, picked up and fluttered some more.
Archie was mesmerized! We enjoyed the butterflies too, but we were far more entertained watching HIM as he took it all in!
For this layout I used a wide assortment of the patterned papers included in the collection, leaving the boldest piece to tell the story with a 2 inch wide strip along the bottom. I might not be inclined to used butterflies on a boy page ordinarily, but when the subject is specifically butterflies, then you bet I will!
I kept the ticket from the excursion, and when the blue edge didn’t quite match the blues in the paper line, I used a Copic marker to color over top and make it match better. I also decided halfway in, that there was too much blue, and I needed a contrast color to balance the overall layout. Opposite blue on the color wheel, is orange. Blue and orange always play nicely together unless you’re mixing paint and then it just turns to mud. So I looked through my stash for some orange/coral/red accents and found it in a sheet of Dear Lizzy die cut stickers. And because those stickers also had lime green leaves on them, I was also free to include that color elsewhere.
I also used some paper and acetate die cuts from Heidi Swapp, some enamel/wood buttons from Pink Fresh and Maggie Holmes, label die cuts from Snap and My Mind’s Eye, as well as the gold “adventure” rub on from My Mind’s Eye, (the Jubilee collection), the green alphabet stickers from Fancy Pants, and a variety of enamel dots from Fancy Pants, We R Memory Keepers and One Canoe Two.
Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!
