I am EXTRA excited to share something that I’ve been keeping secret for a while now!
As you have seen Lori has brought back laser cut chipboard into the store, which we are all so excited about! Chipboard is so versatile and you can finish it in a variety of ways…..which is why we all love it!
The piece I’m sharing today I designed for the store! I have worked with so many different products from lots of designers & companies over the years but this is my FIRST time working with something I designed!! OK coolest experience ever to watch it go from idea in my head, to hand drawn to eventually being cut!
When Lori sent me a photo of the cut piece I was jumping with excitement!!!
I really wanted a background piece that could be cut up and used in parts, or as a whole piece! Yes I said CUT IT UP, don’t be shy! The finished piece is about 8″ high.
This chipboard could be used as a subtle background piece creating fun texture, or more of a statement piece. I really wanted it to be the star of the show (next to the photo of my family) on my canvas though to show it off 😉
This is an 8×10 canvas, as you can see I cut it up to create the visual triangle around my photo. Now the chipboard didn’t start as black, originally I had covered it in Broken China Distress Embossing powder, but changed my mind deciding to black was better! The embossing powder did give the chipboard a nice texture, sadly I wasn’t able to capture that in the photos.
I started the background of my canvas by adding some newsprint sticky back canvas strips, then covered it in white gesso allowing some of the print to show through. Then I added some Finnabair Concrete texture paste, which also got a coating of white gesso, more texture is always good in my world.
I used two different shades of blue mist to color the background, being sure to leave some white space.
For extra texture I pulled out some rubons and randomly added bits around the chipboard pieces. And added a little random stamping too!
For the title on the canvas I used another laser cut piece that Lori had designed and cut for the store. I love the arrow on it, adds an extra bit of fun!
Thank you for joining me in my excitement today!!! I hope Lori will let me design some more fun chipboard pieces! I’d also love to see what you make if you pick this one up!
