Happy National Bikini Day!
Bikini Day is the anniversary of the invention of the bikini in 1946 by a Parisian fashion designer, Louis Reard. It’s also just a regular old Wednesday for most of us, i.e. me.
…but in keeping with the bikini theme, I have ANOTHER honeymoon mini album to share with you.
See the first one here.
As soon as I saw the Crate Paper Oasis collection in person I knew it would be perfect for our Mexico trip. Plus, you can never have too many mini albums documenting the best 2 weeks of your life!
This mini album is basic; I kept embellishments to a minimum in order to let the photos shine.
The base of the album is simple. It’s a few pieces of 6×12 white cardstock scored then sewn together down the middle. I also added a large glassine bag & a piece of striped acetate into the stack before sewing it all together. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you could bind it by hand with embroidery thread or just use 6×6 cardstock then hole punch it.
There’s tons of sewing in this little album – I really put my little blue 1950’s sewing machine to work.
The picture on the left was taken at the ruins beside our resort – in the middle of a sudden downpour.
Since the acetate is see-through, I made sure to cover both sides to cover my adhesive.
I made the vellum pocket by simply folding a long piece of leftover vellum then sewing all around the edges. I love that it makes room to hold extra little photos of us on Isla Mujeres. We met up with my aunt and uncle in Cancun for the day and loved exploring the little island in our golf cart.
How do you glue your sequins down? I use mini glue dots; they seem to be the easiest & best for me.
The center flap is the closed end of the glassine bag I sewed into the album, and I used it just like any other page.
See? Bikini paper on National Bikini Day!
My parents joined us for the second week of our honeymoon – I know, I know, we’re weird.
Those little white alphas are Kaisercraft – available in 5 colours once the store re-opens. If you haven’t heard about the HUGE, awesome changes happening at LIITD, read Lori’s post here.
For the other half of the glassine bag I added a strip of pineapple washi tape (cute!!) to keep my extra photos in.
There are tons of gold accents in the Oasis collection – right up my alley.
And pineapples – which are all the rage right now.
The picture on the left is us exploring at X’elha waterpark – one of our favourite things we did while we were in Playa del Carmen.
Did you know you can sew through wood veneer?? Yup. Just make sure you adjust the settings on your machine first. I set my tension really low & increase my stitch length.
The vellum SUN tag is a piece from the Oasis specialty paper – gold foiled vellum. One of my favourite Crate Paper specialty papers EVER. It’s like a whole 12×12 sheet of embellishments for less than $3…how can you go wrong?
And of course, a little extra embellishment on the back of the album.
A surprisingly sturdy mini album made with just cardstock. Neat, right? I’ve really been feeling mini albums lately – so expect to see a few more in the near future.
Any questions about this little book? Ask me in the comments!
Have a great regular ol’ Wednesday – and if you’re lucky enough to be celebrating National Bikini day, enjoy that too!
