This past Tuesday, June 27, was the last day we were open in our current location. The next day we started packing up everything to move it into two storage units while we impatiently patiently wait for the new location to be ready.
Last week, Paul and I had packed up 4 Honda Element loads of boxes that were already in the first storage unit.
On Wednesday, Paul and I and a friend packed up the teaching room and office. Ugh, the office was the worst part of the whole process.
Paul moved boxes to the storage unit as we packed. We could not believe how many boxes we filled. We had way underestimated how much stuff we actually had in the office and teaching room.
We had to pace ourselves from Wednesday to Friday, as there was a lot of packing to do, a lot of lifting, and lot of moving.
And we managed to be home on Wednesday by 5:00pm, but were pretty zonked for the evening.
On Thursday, four friends and myself dove into packing up the store. Paul moved the boxes to the storage shed as we packed. After lunch, we sent him home to rest for awhile before his golf night. He’d been working pretty hard, so I wanted him to rest before his game. We were finished packing most of the store by 3:00pm. Yes, 3:00 pm … isn’t that amazing!
Paul and I only had a few things to box up in the morning, and it only took us about an hour and a half. And voila, the remaining boxes that Paul didn’t move on Wednesday and the boxes we packed that morning …. and all of the following things … plus more … were ready for the movers who arrived at 8:30am.
Two young men and one big truck arrived, and the process began. And oh wow, I can’t tell you how happy we were that we hired them.
All of these racks, storage units, spinning racks, huge paper racks, etc. would have killed our backs, and we would have still been moving it, I am sure!
All pegboards, etc. were numbered … the items from them were put into boxes and marked with a coordinating number.
Everything looks so empty and bare!
I have made a map to scale of where everything will go in the new store, so when things are moved in, I can tell them where #1 goes, #2 goes, etc. and then the boxes can be moved by the matching stand/pegboard.
Things sure looked different when all of these paper racks were gone.
It was amazing how fast things went out, and the two guys doing the moving were just awesome!
Less and less and less …
the store just kept getting emptier and emptier.
I was cleaning the office, the teaching room and bathroom while they loaded the truck.
And Paul was unscrewing things from the walls and ceiling.
And the truck kept getting fuller … till it would hold no more … and they had to go and put it in the storage shed.
The storage shed was full to the brim, so we needed another one for the rest. They came back and filled the truck with what was left, and then put into another storage shed. The entire store is now in two big sheds.
And there it is, one half of our empty office.
And the other half.
And the teaching room is now bare.
And one big
scrapbooking store. 🙁
But … no more sad faces, as this new location will soon be ready.
And here is a few sneak peeks of the inside. It’s a common front door … left to Jim Smith Accounting, right to us.
Just shy of 2100 square feet (old store was 1300 square feet)
And see that window space on the new build … that’s my office … where I can peek out at you when you come in the store.
And that is the storage room. There is a lot of work that has been done since this, I just said to Paul this morning that we need to go take more pictures. Painting starts tomorrow, and I am excited for that. More updates to come!
We are so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!
