Up a Creek…and another use for Washi Tape

If these blog posts were Instagram, I’d totally be hash-tagging this one #stuffPinterestmademetry!

I don’t have anything scrapbooky to show you this week.  No cards or paper crafting of any kind.  Unless using washi tape counts. Since seeing this idea on Pinterest a few weeks ago, I’ve been accumulating the supplies needed to have a crafty day at the cottage the weekend the kids were all coming.  I was worried I’d have to use Jujubes as bribery, but they actually got really into it!  The plan was to turn our many old, beat up canoe paddles into these fun, designer pieces!

They required some serious sanding before starting and then the use of rulers, straight edges, a variety of masking and washi tapes and finally a bunch of spray bombs.

As I said, everyone got into the project.  It may or may not have gotten a little competitive.

And we’re not neat and tidy crafters….

but I am THRILLED with the final results!!  The wall outside, where they will hang during the canoeing season looks exactly as I’d envisioned it, all bright and colorful AND useful!!

Now that I can see how beautiful the sanded wood is underneath all that orange varnish, I want to sand down the handles as well.  I may even stain some of the paddles darker to better show off the painted designs before revarnishing them and taking them in the water.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope your weekend is going fine!

  • These turned out awesome Norine but my most favourite thing is that your family crafted them together…your adult children are awesome…the apples didn’t fall far from the tree.
